AIST (Geological Survey of Japan is a part of it) has provided
geologic map of each active volcano in Japan with brief summary
of eruptive history. From distribution of ejecta in the past,
age of volcano, and its characteristic features, we could predict
future activities to some extent. Every volcano has its individuality
expressed in its mode of eruption, frequency of activity, and
eruptive scale. The geologic map of volcanoes tries to show the
individuality as if a curriculum vitae of the volcano. It would
be useful for prediction of eruption, change in eruptive mode
etc. It also gave fundamental data for preparation of hazard
map published by local government.
Volcanoes: Asama, Aogashima, Aso, Hokkaido-Komagatake,
Iwate, Izu-Oshima, Kirishima, Kusatsu-Shirane, Miyakejima, Nasu,
Sakurajima, Unzen, Usu
